There is no truer line "Or to put a paywall in the post to make the first part free and the rest paid. In other words, annoying the shit out of everyone." LOL
I always hated doing this. Thanks for breaking it down in plain English, as always.
Interesting that Substack added this functionality. It is a nicer transition for readers and a smoother CTA. I don’t use paid subscriptions here at the moment, but anyone using membership plugins on their WordPress websites could apply the same logic to their blog post CTAs as well.
Thank you! This is such a timely gift for me personally. I’ve been thinking about turning on paid subscriptions but have been trying to figure out the best approach. Should I focus on member perks, use a paywall, or now take advantage of this new option? This definitely gives me something to think about.
I’m hoping that’s exactly what it allows us to do. I haven’t tried it yet, but I’m really looking forward to seeing how it works in practice. It seems like a nice balance between keeping the conversation open and offering subscribers something extra.
So many lightbulbs going off right now! I'm wondering how this could work with, say, a food or recipe creator. For example, the not-subscribed reader could get the image and recipe description. The free subscriber could get the recipe. The paid subscriber could get the printable recipe card. And the founding member could get the ebook version of the cookbook that includes the recipe. I'm going to think on this some more.
Oh, this is very intriguing! I wouldn’t have a clue how to apply it to my writing, but it's definitely something to think about. Thank you for sharing 🫶💜
I love this idea, and am currently trying to do this as I promote my book and create a "Midlife Magic Circle". I am having a bit of a struggle trying to get it all completely figured out, but am determined to do it. Thanks again for the great tutorial videos and looking forward to viewing the next one!
I had given up on the idea of having a paid tier in favor of just promoting the sale of digital products. It sounds like this might change my thinking. (I'm also looking forward to your next article/video.

You can always count on me for that LOL

Basically dynamic content... Makes so much sense.
Wow! Thank you so much! So helpful! I did not know that.

The thing that I think is really cool about this is that it allows you to speak to everyone in the same post without a paywall!

Yes, that’s exactly it — a product ladder, with each level getting more :)
Thanks for the tour. I'm definitely going to try this for my next article 🙌
Thank you for sharing. It’s is an amazing update.
This is a great feature. The ability to tailor content to different audience segments is a big win for creators

This is the first I've heard of this feature. It sounds great. Thanks so much for educating me!
Finally, an explanation that made any sense of this new feature. Thanks, Shannon!
I had seen this but not really understood how powerful it could be! Thanks for this overview and thank you @soph for sharing it with me.
