I am so grateful for this post! You have helped me so much. I'm now off gumroad and have used this method to add a product to my publication. Super excited. Thank you so much, Shannon. 💜🙏
This is mind blowing. Thanks for sharing the great tutorial. Still a novice with Gumroad and stripe but Gumroad takes a hefty chunk from your sales. Does Stripe take a similar cut?
But I think you have to have stripe to sell on gumroad so that actually means you’re losing almost 13% in total (I think!)
Great solution Shannon - the only issue for me is that some of my materials are available for a limited time (e.g 3 months access to my academy) and I don’t think there’s a way on stripe to limit the access period. Also, if you want to keep your IP - as I do with my training videos - I don’t want them to be downloadable just for streaming, so again I’ve had to go with the gumroad option.
Where it’s a one time download though your solution is really neat
Yes, Gumroad adds stripe fees on top of the 3% for stripe, so I just skipped Gumroad altogether. And, yes, Stripe has recurring options for durations like the 3 months. I’m experimenting with a workshop prototype here on Substack using Stripe with durations, I’ll write up a tutorial once I have it all figured out. :)
Very informative. Thanks for sharing. I'm in the process of creating some digital products to sell. I haven't explored the backend of Strip that much. I'll have to check it out more after this.
So generous of you! Unfortunately I don't sell digital products but I saved the article and shared with friends that do. It is so well explained. Thank you!
Thanks for interesting article. ...was it ??? Took 10% ......I am a luddite online....I have to try again to get signed up for STRIPE so I can get paid here....
I can't figure out how to upload images to Substack....either some settings on my device won't let me ....or something...but if I live long enough....??? Maybe...
I have some of my
Art for sale on my pixels POD website where they take the orders....print mail guarantee...all prints and products like tote bags and t-shirts and coffee cups and beach towels and more....
And the artist just decides how much the artist gets per item.....I really like using my tote bags with "my puppy wants a cheeseburger" photo and other items I bought to see quality...they are great...
But there I can charge $5 or $50 my charge per tote bag ....though I would not sell many if I charged $50 each my shares....
My Monarch Caterpillar Photo I use for photo I have on a 3 ft by 6 ft Beach Towel I use as a flag ....
Anyway...thanks for the article....if only I had not been a gardener fanatic with border collies my whole life....
In school when you had typing classes and rolls of film in photography class.....
.the company has direct posting or linking to some other places....but not Substack yet.....any one else on FINE ART AMERICA ?? OR THE PREMIUM PIXELS?? I HAVE NOT SOLD MUCH BUT NOBODY KNOWS TO LOOK FOR ME THERE.....
No. I'm a luddite. I've never had a computer or laptop. Thanks for advice…..I get on computer at library occasionally but I have not tried to sign up there…
This is the single greatest thing ever. Thank you SO MUCH. Been begging for this feature forever and this works better. I might have to build a shrine for you
You just blew my mind 🤯
It did mine too!!! I’m so excited to skip Gumroad and keep everything right here on Substack.
I just set up my first offering on the buy me a coffee shop page, so I’m definitely going to transfer it!
UPDATE: I just used this post as a guide to set up my shop page. I had to share: https://jitsie.substack.com/p/tccpshop

No, Stripe takes 2.7%, Gumroad takes 10%.
That’s quite a difference. Thank you for responding. I’m so glad this article popped up in my feed today.

Sounds great!
I was wondering if this was possible. Great work!!
I stayed up late for too many nights figuring it out, and I’m so excited for it.
This is brilliant. Thank you for sharing.
This is SO helpful! Thank you! I’ve been wondering how to add payment options for my Coaching services. I can’t wait to try it out! 🥰

Do you have a desktop or laptop rather than a phone you could use? Sometimes it’s just easier on a non-mobile device.
No. I'm a luddite. I've never had a computer or laptop. Thanks for advice…..I get on computer at library occasionally but I have not tried to sign up there…
